The Proceedings of the Annual
SRISD Scientific Conference contain both the
abstracts and Dr. Croft’s insightful and incisive
critiques of all of the year’s critically important
research in the areas of whiplash and brain injury traumatology.
Each year he reviews hundreds of papers and produces
up to 160 pages of text. It’s an excellent way
of keeping up with this rapidly expanding field of science,
and Dr. Croft’s critique provides an overview of
both the good and bad literature. Why cover bad literature?
Because junk science is constantly used by special interest
groups as leverage to promote their own agendas, often
to the detriment of physicians and their patients. Understanding
it, therefore, is crucial.
Stay on top of the rapidly changing science. Ensure that any
literature used in an adversarial situation is valid and reliable.
If it is not, you must understand its weaknesses. Use these
books as rebuttal material when studies are misinterpreted,
misquoted, or misrepresented. Use them to develop your own
educational materials, newsletters, websites. Use them to write
scholarly papers for journals or newsletters.
